Want to 3D print a baroque instrument? That’s an interesting idea…now you can!
This instrument was commissioned by a treble viol player in Taiwan. I made this design and built two instruments for him, and am now able to share this awesome design with you, too!
This is a treble Viola da Gamba, and is designed with a string length of 380mm. I have built it with the Aquila F-Red treble viol string set. Here is a link to the set (for USA). Other treble viol string sets should work fine, but I do not recommend using ‘standard’ violin or viola strings.
Currently there are no assembly instructions for the viola da gamba build. I apologize! The build is similar to a standard Modular Fiddle build, but requires using heat set inserts to join the neck parts together. You need four M3 heat set inserts and four M3x12 (or 14mm or 16mm length) socket head cap screws.
There also is only one pegbox option, which requires traditional or geared violin pegs. You really do need a pegbox reamer to set these up and have the pegs work well.
All of this aside, I have received requests for these print files, so I happily will sell them to you. If you plan to build one of these, awesome! Please get in touch and I am happy to support you with your build. If you would like a kit of parts, please get in touch.
When you purchase you’ll be redirected to Paypal to pay. Then, once you pay via Paypal, you’ll automatically be sent back here to the download page for the file. You will also receive an email with a summary of your purchase and a link to the download.
