The Modular Fiddle is an open source and upgradeable 3D printed violin.
It takes 15 minutes to change any part using common household tools.

The Modular Fiddle is a 3D printed violin designed to quickly test experimental violin concepts and acoustics only possible with 3D printing. Concepts that test well can be incorporated into traditional violin methods to advance the craft for all string instruments.

Currently, the Modular Fiddle has the sound quality and playability of a mid-range wooden violin with a noticeable decrease in volume and projection. While the current sound quality is impressive, the focus of this design is not to match the sound of a quality wood instrument, but instead to create altogether different sound. You can learn more about the Modular Fiddle on this page.

Currently the Modular Fiddle at its most basic is a 4-string violin. There are modules available to make it a 5-string violin and to add Hardanger inspired sympathetic understrings. See the shop page for available modules.
