Make the first ever 3D printed Hardanger fiddle! This purchase gives you all the files you need to 3D print and build a Hardanger fiddle or a standard violin with understrings.
The Hardanger fiddle is available for Version 1, 2, and 4. Building V4 is highly recommended!
The Hardanger Fiddle is a Norwegian folk instrument. It has four playing strings and four understrings that resonate sympathetically. Hardanger Fiddles have a string length of 300mm, whereas a standard violin is 330mm. This download also includes a 330mm neck for understrings, so you can make a standard violin with understrings as well as a Hardanger Fiddle.
I am now mounting the understrings to the body, NOT to the tailpiece. This reduces stress to the tailpiece (they were breaking) and allows you to use a standard 4-string tailpiece (printed or off-the-shelf). This modified body is included in the download.
For V4 there is only one tuner option: Tune-a-lele tuners. These may break for a full size violin build, so buy a few extra and keep them in your case. For a Hardanger fiddle I think they will be just fine.
After you checkout you’ll be redirected to the download page. You will also receive an email with a summary of your purchase and a link to the download.
This purchase gives you access to a ZIP file of the latest Hardanger Modular Fiddle print files. This includes all STL files for printing. Assembly documentation can be found on the build instructions and info page, here.
