Light up your strings with something unique.
A future proof violin: Strata Glow is a LED infused 3D printed modular electric violin.
This particular build is refurbished — the body is re-used from another build. The neck, pegbox, tailpiece, and chinrest are all printed in a translucent ‘faded rainbow’ color. This provides some color but doesn’t block too much of the LED light.
The bridge on this one is also re-used, and the action is a little low. Hence the ‘little low’ pricing! This is great for beginners, in my opinion, but advanced players may find they experience some buzz on the G string and may want higher action in general. The bridge may be replaced by a luthier.
The body shows some damage where I levered open the side panel (see red circled region in photos).
Lighting Controls
The lighting system is controlled by a configurable wifi-connected tiny computer (Atom Lite) running WLED. A built-in microphone inside the body allows the lights to respond to your playing!
The violin ships with 12 default presets, half of which are sound-reactive. You can cycle between presets with a single button push on the instrument. If you want more control you can connect to the wifi network of the controller (screen shot of the controls interface shown in photos). While your phone will work in a pinch, the best way to customize your lighting is actually to connect to the controller through a computer (not your phone). Then you can more easily cycle different colors and patterns and experiment with all the options.
Power
The system is powered by 5V power via USB-C. An 5000 mAh external power pack ships with the instrument, which provides 4-8 runtime hours. Any portable power pack you might use to charge a phone will work to run the light system, so you can always be ready with a backup.
The power pack attaches with velcro on the back of the instrument, usually on the bass side underneath your shoulder rest.

This build is fully-translucent.
