Light up your strings with something unique.
A future proof violin: Strata Glow is a LED infused 3D printed modular electric violin.
Lighting Controls
The lighting system is controlled by a configurable wifi-connected tiny computer (Atom Lite) running WLED. A built-in microphone inside the body allows the lights to respond to your playing!
The violin ships with 12 default presets, half of which are sound-reactive. You can cycle between presets with a single button push on the instrument. If you want more control you can connect to the wifi network of the controller (screen shot of the controls interface shown in photos). While your phone will work in a pinch, the best way to customize your lighting is actually to connect to the controller through a computer (not your phone). Then you can more easily cycle different colors and patterns and experiment with all the options.
Power
The system is powered by 5V power via USB-C. An 5000 mAh external power pack ships with the instrument, which provides 4-8 runtime hours. Any portable power pack you might use to charge a phone will work to run the light system, so you can always be ready with a backup.
The power pack attaches with velcro on the back of the instrument, usually on the bass side underneath your shoulder rest (see photos).
Lighting Options
Choose between Carbon Fiber Black for the black body with light panels, or Fully Translucent for the white-ish body that fully lights up. The acoustic tone of this option is less rich than Carbon Fiber Black, but the amplified tone is the same. Check out the video below to see the Fully Translucent in action.
- $1850 — Carbon Fiber Black with KNA VV-series pickup
- $1850 — Fully Translucent with KNA VV-series pickup
- +$400 for LR Baggs upgrade
Pickup and Signal Electronics
The base build will use a bridge insert (KNA VV-series) installed in a 3D printed bridge. Upgrade to a LR Baggs bridge for an additional $400. Either pickup may be changed later — there is a connector between the pickup and the internal electronics to allow for changes later in life. For either option, the internal components are the same — a single potentiometer that controls the volume and a 1/4″ output jack.
